Balance Activities

Activity 1: Walking with Memory Challenge


  1. Stand tall with good posture.
  2. Begin walking slowly across the room.
  3. As you walk, say the months of the year backward (December to January).
  4. Focus on keeping your steps steady while recalling each month.

Activity 2: Balance with Mental Math

  1. Stand near a sturdy chair, wall, or counter for support.
  2. Lift one foot slightly off the ground.
  3. Begin counting backward from 100 by sevens (100, 93, 86, etc.).
  4. Maintain your balance as long as you can.
  5. Switch to the other foot and repeat.

Activity 3: Controlled Walking with Cup

  1. Fill a paper or plastic cup halfway with water.
  2. If you normally use a cane, hold it in your other hand.
  3. Walk slowly across the room while carrying the cup.
  4. Keep the cup steady to prevent spills.
  5. Focus on controlled, smooth movements—just like carrying groceries or coffee.

Activity 4: Walking with Head Turns

  1. Choose a flat, uncluttered space.
  2. Begin walking forward at a comfortable pace.
  3. Slowly turn your head side to side, as if looking left and right for traffic.
  4. Keep your steps steady while continuing to scan.
  5. Repeat for several passes across the room.
