Osteopathy – as I would describe it to a toddler

by Precision Physiotherapy Osteopathy November 18, 2022

A couple weeks ago we had a toddler patient come in with digestive issues. It’s important that the toddler understands why they are in, how we are going to help them and what they can expect. This eliminates any fear or confusion. The question is… how do you explain a medical practice in the language of a toddler.

That’s when I realized this…

If you can’t explain something clearly and concisely, then you don’t understand it yourself. I think that a lot of medical professionals make the mistake of thinking that non-medical professionals understand what they’re talking about, when in reality, half of the time they don’t.

So I’d like to share how I described Osteopathy to this toddler. I think you might find, even as a well-educated adult, it’s clearer without all the medical jargon…

A Manual Osteopathic Practitioner is like a wizard. Like all wizards, an Osteopath has special powers that can be used for good. Their hands are able to see and sense where things are in the body and where they should be. They can use their magic hands to tickle people’s skeletons into happier positions, massage their magic into peoples organs, help vibrate blood with more life and vivacity and calm other systems down so they can rest and recover.

The goal of a Manual Osteopathic Wizard… I mean, Practitioner is to bring the whole body to balance and harmony. Sessions have a full-bodied, hands-on, gentle approach.

A lot of clients, including kiddos will leave feeling energized yet calm. Due to their holistic approach, Osteopaths are also able to treat multiple-bodied conditions that are more challenging for other practitioners to address.

If you or your young ones need holistic support, our Osteopathic team can take care of you.
