  • Hamstring is a group of muscles located on the back of the thigh.
  • It runs from your buttock to knee.

The main action of this muscle group is:

  • to allow the knee to bend
  • and extend your thigh.

These movement play a crucial role in daily activities such as walking, running, jumping and controlling many mobility tasks.

What causes Hamstring injury?

  • Rapid extensive contraction or violent stretch of the hamstring muscle group
  • Common in sports with a dynamic activities like sprinting, jumping and contact sports

Risks:

  • Prior injury
  • Inadequate warm up
  • Excessive tilting of Pelvis
  • Poor flexibility

Symptoms and Sites Symptoms:

  • Pain
  • Bruise
  • Tenderness
  • Loss of motion
  • Muscle weakness
  • Muscle tightness
  • Sometimes Swelling

Sites:

  • Close to buttock where tendon attach to your sit bone
  • Middle of the thigh
  • Close to knee
